Monbijou Fountain is a popular landmark of the city of Berlin, located in Monbijou Park near Unter den Linden. This magnificent Baroque fountain was built in the early 1700s on top of an old stone wall at the edge of the park. It features a large central figure depicting Neptune, flanked by two stone dolphins and surrounded by four allegoric figures representing rivers originating from nearby Spree river. At its peak, there is an ornate crown with eight smaller figures representing other European rivers. The fountain's backdrop consists of a tall iron fence with several decorative elements and an iron gate beneath it that leads to Monbijou Park itself.
The beautiful Monbijou Fountain has become one of Berlin's most famous landmarks, often featured in travel brochures, postcards and even stamps! It's also one of the few important cultural sites in Berlin that survived World War II. Since then, it has been extensively restored to its former glory and continues to be appreciated by both locals and visitors alike. Its grandiose presence adds a touch of luxurious elegance to the surrounding parkland and serves as a reminder of Berlin's illustrious past.
